New Gundam 00 and Eureka Seven Novels Are Out

Two light novels that I was the copy editor on have been released: Eureka Seven: New World Order and Mobile Suit Gundam 00: Fallen Angels, both from Bandai Entertainment, are now available. You can find out more about them by clicking on my Amazon store in the sidebar (imaginatively titled "My Anime and Manga Books").

Mobile Suit Gundam 00: Fallen Angels is the novelization of the end of Gundam 00's first season, while Eureka Seven: New World Order is the third in a series of four novels that present an "alternative retelling" of the Eureka Seven story.

Guess Who's Number One?

Why... it's our friend, Veneziano... aka Hetalia himself!

Tokyopop's Hetalia: Axis Powers, vol. I manga is No. 1 on the New York Times manga bestseller list!

I was the copy editor for this volume, and my thanks to Tokyopop editor Cindy Suzuki for giving me a credit in the book for my work. To be honest, it actually was a lot of work - as you'll see if you read it. There were numerous historical references to be checked, as well as country profiles to read through carefully and a lot of footnotes to proofread. But it was a labor of love for me - as I'm a big fan of Hetalia - and Tokyopop did a beautiful job with the production and final product. (I'm looking at a copy of it right now.)

I've added Hetalia: Axis Powers, vol. I to my Amazon store in the sidebar, along with other books I've worked on recently, including the third volume in the Eureka Seven light novel series and the third volume in the Mobile Suit: Gundam 00 series, both for Bandai Entertainment. Feel free to visit my store and take a look!

And for all you Hetalia fans... don't forget about international Hetalia Day (U.N. Day).

Eureka Seven: Unknown Pleasure

I generally only make announcements about - and list in my Amazon store, in the sidebar - books where I was the rewriter or English adaptation writer. The books that I do copy editing or proofreading on, I don't consider myself to have had enough input into to make it worth mentioning.

I'm making an exception, though, for Eureka Seven: Unknown Pleasure. I'm not sure how many fans are aware that Bandai Entertainment is translating and publishing light novels set in the Eureka Seven universe. I say Eureka Seven universe, because these volumes are not a novelization of the canon story. As the forewords to both the first novel, Eureka Seven: Blue Monday, and this second novel state, this is an alternate story with the same characters in the same universe. In other words, Renton still leaves his grandfather and joins Holland and the Gekko State - but the adventure that follows is apparently a different one than what happens in the canon series.

Blue Monday - which I had to read, in order to work on Unknown Pleasure - sets up this alternate story nicely, but this second volume, Unknown Pleasure, was really exceptional. I'm at somewhat of a disadvantage as I have only just started watching the anime series, and therefore can't really compare it with this alternate story; but if the canon series shows anything like the depth of characterization and engaging storyline that I read in Unknown Pleasure, then I will truly be looking forward to watching the rest of the series.

Robert Napton at Bandai was kind enough to give me the credit as copy editor for this book, even though I was brought on to the project fairly late, so a thank-you goes out to him for that. :)

If you're a Eureka Seven fan, you should definitely consider reading this light novel series. This alternate story will conclude with Volume 4, to be released later this year.
